With its optional turbocharged engine for the 2013 model year, the automotive press calls the 2013 Buick Verano a powerful small sedan with a comfortable, hushed cabin and plenty of standard features.
Last year, the Buick Verano debuted with a 180-horsepower, four-cylinder engine and a standard automatic transmission that reviewers liked, but weren't enthusiastic about. For the 2013 model year, Buick adds the Verano Turbo, which has a four-cylinder turbocharged engine that makes 250 horsepower. It also has a standard automatic transmission, and a six-speed manual is optional. Reviewers say the turbocharged engine is strong enough to compete with rivals like the Volkswagen GTI and Audi A3. However, reviewers say Verano models have uninspiring handling. Gas mileage for both models is also very similar, with the base model averaging 21/32 mpg city/highway, and the Verano Turbo with the manual transmission averaging 20/31 mpg, according to the EPA.
The automotive press says the Verano’s cabin is one of the quietest in the class, and they’re also impressed with its attractive design and quality materials. The 2013 Verano comes with a class-competitive features list that includes items like a rearview camera, touch-screen infotainment system, Bluetooth and a USB port. Though well-equipped, reviewers say that some of the buttons are confusing. Some test drivers think the three rear seats are too tight for adults, but others say they’re rather spacious for a small car. According to reviewers, the 2013 Buick Verano also has plenty of trunk space.
